Summer '18: Nicaragua
For two weeks in August, Cada Casa will be hosting an exclusive group of students to study, volunteer, and experience the beautiful country of Nicaragua. The trip will be divided into two parts: Granada (the city) and Playa Marsella (the beach). Our time in Granada will be spent learning about the history and culture of the country, while our time on the beach will be spent learning about Tropical Ecology and volunteering with some Marine Biology conservation efforts. For more information, feel free to contact the trip's organizer: Tymon Emch.
Part I: Granada (The City)
The first four days of the trip will be spent in Granada. In the mornings, students will pair with local high school students for an English/Spanish exchange. The purpose of these meetings is to enrich our bilingualism while connecting with others from another culture. The afternoons will be spent touring different parts of the city and getting a primer in the historical and cultural context for Granada, and Nicaragua in general. Other activities include coffee plantations, local arts exhibitions, Parque de las Ciencias, visit Volcán Masaya, Naturopathy on Ometepe Island and Latino dance classes. Accommodations will be at a local Air-BnB.
Part II: Playa Marsella (the Beach)
The last eight days of the trip will be spent in Playa Marsella, a small beach community on the Pacific Coast. A primer in Tropical Ecology will introduce students to the marine and tropical rain forest biomes, with an emphasis in conservation and restoration. Students will then volunteer with a local Marine Biology conservation group in an effort to restore and preserve habitats. Accommodations will be at a local hostel/In the afternoon, students will have a choice of different exploration activities including: Surf lessons, recording studio sessions, beach soccer, local cooking classes, turtle sanctuary, and intro to sailing.
